Thank you, Frank. I'm glad to know that there is someone else out there who thinks Amid is a real jerk. I can tolerate Jerry, he generally gives things a chance, but Amid just jumps the gun constantly. Honestly, the only time I ever respond to a post on CB is when I'm trying to point out how wrong Amid is on something.

I'm no fan of this screenshot...I don't even have especially high hopes for the series. But jesus, it's not even out yet. What's the point of prejudging something other than to stroke your own ego?

Just for fun I'm re-posting Bob Mackey's wonderfully accurate skewering of Cartoon Brew that he put on Something Awful: http://www.somethingawful.com/d/news/animation-website.php

The part about John K is great.

I'm out of the loop on who these people are, but from what you guys have said I'll definitely believe that Amid is a dick. I'm open to give this re-vamp a chance, I think it looks fine so far.

Yeah the John K part killed me actually. I didn't realize Bob Mackey was an animation fan too. Just thought he was a gamer dude.

And don't feel bad Dusk, I'm really out of the whole animation loop too.

He's the renaissance man of geek culture journalism.

As for the being in the animation loop...Cartoon Brew is a good and bad place to check out. They have some honest-to-goodness good links, they keep up to date on news, and Jerry has written some pretty good opinion pieces.

But Amid...he's the definition of "those who can't do, teach." Or rather, "those who can't do, teach...those who can't teach, review." He's the Pitchfork Media of the animation world, building up some indie animators, burning down the mainstream for simply "being too mainstream."

He pretends to stand up for the little guy, and yet every cartoon he picks to appear on the blog is A) done by an indie animator who is already universally acclaimed or B) a student film from RISD, CalArts, or Sheridan.

He is, in short, a douche.

hah the strange thing is amid started out, at least journalistically, much more humble than he is now. in fact, in the back of one of michel gagne's self published comics, amid wrote in a fan letter that was printed. he comes across as a total fan boy which is fine. then i remember getting animation blast and thinking pretty highly of him. then he announced cartoonbrew several years ago and i was stoked. but over the years he has proved again and again to just throw out snarky one liners in any attempt to burn down anything mainstream.

the thing thats scary is that he and people like him, are writting the history of the meduim. they have even given john k the honors of INVENTING FLASH. its unreal. they have totally re-written history, and unfortunately, there are people out there who believe it.

I've read the article and the only thing I can think of is a small story staring none other then Chuck Jones himself (the following is a true story)
Some students came up to him one day and said "Mr. Jones, how do you draw Bugs Bunny?"
Chuck Jones smiled and said. "Well, usually what I do is draw a carrot and stick a rabbit on the end of it."
And the Bugs Bunny he drew was his own interpretation, NOT the original (I believe that honor goes to Robert McKimson, right?)

So how can we belittle creators for their own interpretations of established characters, but someone like Chuck Jones can do so and be praised?

I'm not saying this is going to be a masterpiece. Personally, I am EXTREMELY judgmental of anything that has the Looney Tunes stamp on it (With a huge Looney Tunes fan like my dad, I was quoting Bugs by the time I was 3), but that doesn't mean I'll make a judgment call without even seeing it, LET ALONE by just a single frame of animation.

To Amid, while I won't tell you your opinion is invalid, I will tell you that you sound like kinda an ass to crap on something before it even has a chance.
