With Shane Black‘s Iron Man 3 now filming, fans have begun to piece together what’s happening via set photos, rumors and more. The biggest revelation thus far came two weeks ago when set photos confirmed a brand new suit of armor that looks like character named the Iron Patriot. Initial reports were that the suit would be manned by James Badge Dale‘s character, a villain in the movie. Those reports now appear to be false.
Latino Review once again has the scoop and a new, more logical, interpretation of the photos.
Latino Review says that, while the red white and blue suit seen in the photos might be referred to as “the Iron Patriot,” it’s not the Iron Patriot as known in the comics. In fact, it’s actually Don Cheadle‘s War Machine, in a new, upgraded, patriotic armor.
Here’s an excerpt:
We’re getting this from someone on set who says what we’re all calling “Iron Patriot” is Don Cheadle’s new armor. For purposes of clarity, I’ll still be calling it War Machine, even if the movie decides to call him “Iron Patriot”
The US Government has had their hands on this Stark suit for awhile, and apparently they’ve decided to make it more patriotic (especially with the nano-technology stuff I hear is going down in China these days, it’s important for America to look good, not like ‘Iron Man 2′s’ bulky grey War Machine).
That’s why the set photo of “Iron Patriot” has the War Machine gun on his back, because it’s NOT Iron Patriot, it’s NOT James Badge Dale, it’s NOT Coldblood-7.
According to their report, War Machine is assigned to protect the Vice President in the film.
Again, until we hear a 100% official confirmation from Marvel from any of this, be wary that anything is possible. But considering War Machine’s role in the film had largely been a mystery, this makes more sense than Iron Patriot/War Machine being another villain when there’s already Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley.
