I don't hate Leno the way that other people do, but I certainly don't bother to watch him. Every time I laugh watching Leno, it's something like Headlines where people submit funny things, so it's not really him making me laugh. And his banter with Kevin Eubanks is awful.

I'll probably watch the last show tonight because Conan is gonna be on it to make the transition. Conan is just as funny a guest as he is a host.

Man, I can't wait until Monday's show. I just know he's going to knock it out of the park. They've got the writers, the actors, the band, and finally Andy Richter once more. I really want to hear what the Tonight Show's theme song will be, and I hope it's as catchy as his old Late Night theme.

I even love the new show logo: Image

Wonderfully old school.

ANDY RICHTER!!! YAY!

Isn't it sad that the best thing he's ever done was be Conan's sidekick? Andy Barker and Andy Richter Controls the Universe didn't last very long at all.

Yeah. It's too bad. I really liked Controls the Universe, too...and I think it could have caught on in a TV atmosphere like today's. It was one of the few unconventional sitcoms with no laugh track/three camera system, and it probably felt too weird for most people.

I'm definitely pumped for Conan, he's by far the best late night host. In terms of Leno...Leno>Kimmel.
Kimmel can suck a richard.

Really? you don't like Kimmel? I think he's much better than leno and letterman. His only downfall is how much of an network bitch he is for ABC. He does anything for them.

I'm pumped for tonight though. First time I'll watch the tonight show in years.

another 20 minutes until greatness

I heard Richter on stern today and laughed my ass off. I think i may need to get Controls the Universe on DVD because I forgot just how funny he is.

I was pleasantly surprised. It was pretty much Late Night only at at 11:35. Rock on.

But it was kinda weird to hear "Max Weinberg and the Tonight Show Band"

I loved it. The entire bit with him giving the tour killed me.

I think he knocked it out of the park. He wasn't quite as goofy as usual, but I can't tell if that's a long term change or just because it was the first show.

I can't wait until everything falls into place and it becomes more relaxed...also, comedy bits with Max, Andy, and Conan once more!

I watched up until the first commercial so far.
Seems like the same show which is great. He was still as goofy as always. You would never see Jay Leno run across America for his show. haha

Last nights was another good episode. He had a longer monologue with more jokes but then ended with a skit. Which was great. Tom Hanks was hilarious as well. He had Green Day perform but i skipped it cuz I hate that new song.

Hahah. Even with the name change it's still more like classic ITY2000 with Andy Richter back!

if i was conan i would be pissed too. NBC sucks. they had to expect there would be some adjustment when making this change. it has only been 6 months, not enough time to reform audiences. plus they made him uproot his life and shit. i hope he sues them.

Conan releases statement says he wont do show after Leno:

Quote:

People of Earth:

In the last few days, I’ve been getting a lot of sympathy calls, and I want to start by making it clear that no one should waste a second feeling sorry for me. For 17 years, I’ve been getting paid to do what I love most and, in a world with real problems, I’ve been absurdly lucky. That said, I’ve been suddenly put in a very public predicament and my bosses are demanding an immediate decision.

Six years ago, I signed a contract with NBC to take over The Tonight Show in June of 2009. Like a lot of us, I grew up watching Johnny Carson every night and the chance to one day sit in that chair has meant everything to me. I worked long and hard to get that opportunity, passed up far more lucrative offers, and since 2004 I have spent literally hundreds of hours thinking of ways to extend the franchise long into the future. It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of ratings support from the prime-time schedule. Building a lasting audience at 11:30 is impossible without both.

But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months, with my Tonight Show in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule.

Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the Tonight Show to 12:05 to accommodate the Jay Leno Show at 11:35. For 60 years the Tonight Show has aired immediately following the late local news. I sincerely believe that delaying the Tonight Show into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. The Tonight Show at 12:05 simply isn’t the Tonight Show. Also, if I accept this move I will be knocking the Late Night show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot. That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy.

So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it. My staff and I have worked unbelievably hard and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of The Tonight Show. But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction. Some people will make the argument that with DVRs and the Internet a time slot doesn’t matter. But with the Tonight Show, I believe nothing could matter more.

There has been speculation about my going to another network but, to set the record straight, I currently have no other offer and honestly have no idea what happens next. My hope is that NBC and I can resolve this quickly so that my staff, crew, and I can do a show we can be proud of, for a company that values our work.

Have a great day and, for the record, I am truly sorry about my hair; it’s always been that way.

Yours,

Conan

Fuck Leno and fuck NBC. I've never been so genuinely pissed at a freaking network. The only consolation is knowing that Conan is talented enough that he'll find work elsewhere.

I will never watch Leno's shitty show.

Conan should have said "Don't feel bad for me because NBC will be paying me a shit ton of money to do absolutely nothing thanks to my contract."
