Glad True Grit got a lot of love...it deserves it...I still have to see The Kings Speech its the only big nominee I haven't seen besides Winters Bone...I am hoping for a Hailee Steinfeld and Jeff Bridges upset

I haven't seen The King's Speech yet either but I have it downloaded.

Winter's Bone is pretty good. Its a little slow at times but its a good story that keeps you interested.
Its about a young teenage girl who takes care of her mom and siblings because her dad was in jail then went missing. The mom has mental problems and doesnt speak.
But they are trying to take her house because the dad gave it up in order to make bail. So she goes out and tries to track him down. But she finds out a lot of stuff about the people in her town. The brother from Eastbound and Down is good in it. He's nominated for Best Supporting, John Hawkes.

It's a shame Nolan got snubbed for director and Inception didn't get an editing nomination, which is ridiculous. I was also really shocked Waiting for Superman didn't get documentary, but I'm glad to see Exit Through the Gift Shop did. If you guys get a chance you should check it out, it's a really funny and interesting documentary on street art which I downloaded and watched recently.

I was happy with TSN getting score, cinematography and editing noms all very well deserved, even though I think Deakins finally wins his Oscar for the cinematography in True Grit.

The only one I need to see is Biutiful, Bardem must be really good in it because Gosling was pretty impressive in Blue Valentine which didn't make the cut.

Yeah, I was talking about Exit Through the Gift Shop on here. It's pretty funny and makes me feel even more that modern art is just a bunch of garbage.

I think The King's Speech is the frontrunner to win best pic now. TSN was the critic's favorite but Speech just seems to be more of an actor's movie which the Academy is mostly made up of. It also is an uplifitng story that pulls at the heartstrings which I feel is more up the Academy's ally then the darker TSN.

But we'll see either way I don't really care, as long as Fincher wins director.

If 'speech' wins best picture, I'm betting hooper wins best director. Also, Toy Story 3 has no right to be in the best picture category. I'm sorry, Pixar fans.

It was a good movie, but FAR from the best of the year. Personally, I'll be happy if I never see another Toy Story movie in my life. I've had my fill.

yeah i have to also disagree. i actually found it refreshing that it was in the best picture category. it validates animation as a legitimate format and the movie was well written, well produced, well acted and was really impressive. don't hate nate.

I'd rather see Toy Story 3 up there than The Kids Are Alright.

Because they weren't.

Up was nominated for best picture last year too. This is nothing new. However, there's a best animated feature category for a reason. Just because the CG was really well done, it doesn't really redeem the other middling parts of Toy Story. I'll definitely disagree with the 'well written' part.

I've actually heard the opposite about The Kids are Alright. I couldn't tell you though, because I haven't seen it.

Scott Pilgrim should've got a nod for visual effects or sound design too.

i know im alone on this. but scott pilgrim may have been one of the most overrated movies of all time, i was really kind of let down. the 8 bit references were great, but it was really just meh overall.

Just because "Up" got in last year doesn't mean it would happen again. Another animated film in the category means that it is becoming a more accepted medium. Animation and Comic films have never really been taken seriously and I think that's a shame because they can really be better movies then the serious and over dramatized shit that gets hailed as masterpieces. Of course I am not talking about horseshit like Spiderman 3. I mean lets face it, Ledger only got it for joker because he died and people felt sorry for him. Otherwise it wouldn't have happened and that is bullshit because aside from putting on an incredible performance, the character he produced was one of the best antagonists I have ever seen in any movie comic or otherwise.

idk what your beef with toy story is, but you must really just hate the franchise.. Cause from an unbiased perspective, it really was a well done movie. i think you are just too blinded by rage against pixar. and the kids are alright may have been a fine movie, but it never struck me as a movie that anyone really gave a shit about. its like a date movie or something. not really anything i would watch more than once.

Not saying bad. Pixar hasn't made many bad movies. I think being nominated for best picture should mean MORE than what Toy Story 3 had to offer.

Listen, I know you guys are all into animation and that probably affects your appreciation for it, but personally I didn't go crazy over Toy Story 3. Or any of them for that matter.

I don't have a problem with you not liking Scott Pilgrim. Enjoy your own opinion. I just thought that the visuals and audio effects in SP deserved recognition. That's not really anything exclusive to Scott Pilgrim though. That's just because Edgar Wright is always impressive in those aspects.

Also, I'm not the one drawing conclusions about movies I haven't seen more than a trailer for.

You're not the only one that felt Scott Pilgrim was mediocre. I thought it was amusing but I don't think I would ever go back to watch it again. I didn't even like the 2 main characters. I thought the supporting characters were more fun. And you can't really say much about the story.

I agree with you on The Kids are Alright as well. It really wasn't that terrible but it wasn't something that sticks with you that you would want to go watch again. It's something you watch on a date and hopefully the girl gets turned on by the sex scene and show you some loving afterward.

Toy Story 3 didn't make my Top 10 either but it definitely just missed the mark.
I was a fan of Up and Wall-E more than Toy Story 3 though. Probably because they were something fresh and new.
That doesn't mean Toy Story 3 wasn't a great flick though. I really enjoyed it.

And I think The Kids Are All Right was a tad overrated. Its my Up In The Air of the year because I didn't have that on my Top 10 last year and a lot of people did.
I just didn't think it was anything special. Its not bad, its not great. Its a decent movie.

im just saying you have an outward hostility towards animation nate..and at this point you basically seem like you are with the majority of the critic world who feel it is not really a valuable medium. i think the medium shouldn't have a lot to do with the decision on it being best picture, it should be on what it invokes from the audience. everyone i know who watched it enjoyed the hell out of it. parents and kids alike. i really don't know why you hate it so much, but your rage boner is a bit uncontrollable. its almost like you were inappropriately touched as a kid while watching one of these movies.

btw, i am not judging based on a trailer, i watched most of the kids are alright and like i said, it was just not anything that i gave a shit about. i could see the same level of shit on 5 channels with 2 and a half men reruns.

An animated film will never win Best Picture. They only do that shit to tease people. I like Toy Story as a whole a lot, though I'll be honest in that I've only seen the first one maybe a total of two times and the second I've only seen in its entirety once. Toy Story 3 was pretty damn awesome though. I mean, I can't really see any genuinely large flaws just thinking about it. It's kind of like, almost perfect really. Between Up, Wall-E, Toy Story 3 and Ratatouille, Pixar has seriously knocked them out of the park the last few years.

What did Dark Knight lose against that year? Wasn't it even nominated for Best Picture? It should have been. I can't remember any movies off the top of my head from that year which were better than TDK. Movie was jawesome as shit.
