Steven Spielberg brings us Terra Nova.
Debuts on FOX in May as a 2 hour TV event then picks back up in September.
Its about a group of people going back in time to the prehistoric era.
It basically looks like Jurassic Park, the TV show.

Quote:
The show is set in the year 2149 when all life on the planet Earth is being threatened with extinction. Scientists have opened a door allowing people to travel back to prehistoric times. The Shannon family (father Jim, his wife Elisabeth, and their three children Josh, Maddy and Zoe) join the tenth pilgrimage of settlers to Terra Nova, the first human colony on the other side of the temporal doorway. However, they did not realize that they placed it in the middle of a group of carnivores.

first footage was shown during the Super Bowl.

Yeah, when I saw it, I was like, what is this? Jurassic Park the TV show? It's like Jurassic Park mixed with Land of the Lost mixed with Lost World.

I love dinosaurs so I'll give it a chance. But if the dinosaurs suck, count me out.

Is that supposed to be a mini series? It looks too expensive to be a full show. Anyway, I'll check it out.

I think plans right now are a 13 episode series. It doesn't say season but instead series. So maybe they are waiting to see the numbers and seeing if the show is profitable before announcing plans for another season. It was supposed to debut in May with a 2 hour premiere and then continue in the Fall. But they needed more time to improve visual effects and pushed the whole thing to Fall. So they're already running into effects issues. But yeah, this one looks expensive and would probably have to do huge numbers to keep it going.

So I sort of want to watch this but this is how I think it's going to go. First off, to actually have awesome dinosaurs all the time is going to cost money. A dinosaur heavy show is not possible on network television. So what's going to happen is that it'll probably have a decent 2 hour premier with lots of decent effects work and then next week it's going to get boring real fucking fast. By the fifth episode you'll be lucky to have any sort of cool action and it's just going to be a bunch of typical family bullshit.

That's what I think will happen, but I'd love to be wrong because I love dinosaurs. I even like Jurassic Park 3.

I want to watch it but I wont be home and my DVR is packed to the gills...I am hoping they put it OnDemand. They spent enough money for it they should.

Oh and Phil, I like Jurassic Park 3 too...I think its the Sam Neil factor.

And this is the best scene of ALL Jurassic Park. So fucking good. Still gives me goose bumps. I'll never forget seeing this in the theaters, it made such an impression on me. This clip cuts it short though, it's not the whole thing.

Looking at these clips, if the Terra Nova guys were smart they'd have built some awesome puppets for it. Part of the reason JP1 holds up so well is that it didn't rely on CG, just used it when they had to.

I am 100% certain this show is going to be awful. The entire plot is idiotic. You can't save the earth by sending people back in time, you would make it worse. If people come earlier, they trash the planet earlier, then the earth dies faster and there is no time machine and so then those people don't exist anyways. On top of which the introduction of a new species at that point in the time line would likely change the course of evolution and history completely, which would also result in no time machine and no people coming back in the first place. No matter how you look at it, the whole idea of it is fukin retarded and i hate it. They just wanted to use the Colonel from Avatar in a Pandora-like setting without being a total blatant rip off.

This has been my main problem with the entire idea of this show, it just sounds ridiculous.

Yeah, that plot does sound absurd. Guess I was just looking by it because I just want to love dinosaurs.

Yeah but when they go back in time they just start over and screw everything up again. At least they have some time to live before they destroy the world.
I don't know why they had to go back to dinosaur time though. Maybe the pilot will explain. The commercials just wanna show dinosaurs.

There is also the fact that a fukin asteroid trashed the planet and killed off the dinosaurs and pretty much everything else for like millions of years..so again, it would make no fukin difference! I fuking hate this show so much!

what are you guys talking about? it's in a seperate time stream, so nothing they do in terra nova will disrupt the future, that being said the first episode is WAYYYY too drama filled, i'd even call it filler.
