i bought my home in December '08 so i only got the 7500 tax credit that you have to pay back (500/yr for 15 years). Had I waited a few more days I could've gotten the 8k for free.

Man that blows, but 500/15 year is almost free money anyway.

yeah, it sucks that i easily could've put it off had i known (they didn't pass the new bill until late january or early february), but a 7500 interest free loan is a lot better than nothing. Especially since I don't really have to do anything, they just take it directly off my return starting next year. I needed to buy furniture and stuff, so I used mine, but a buddy of mine invested quite a bit of his and is going to make more than the 500/yr he has to pay back.

I'm just glad I got enough this year to buy a dishwasher and a new AV reciever.

You have to pay the 8 grand back?

I did pretty well this year, even after changing my deductions. I'd like to shrink the return a little more next year and get it in my paycheck. I hate giving the US Government interest free loans with money thats rightfully mine.

Yeah I fixed mine a little. I changed it to claiming 0 over the weekend. Just looked at my check that I'll get on Friday and they only withheld $10 more a week so that really wont cut it.
So I'm trying to claim this Other option called 'Married but Single Withholding'. So we'll see next week how much more comes out of my check and if it will even things out a bit more next year.

Got some money from the insurance company for house damages and used some to pay off my taxes. Owed $700 federal and $20 state. BOGEY!

I did fix everything in my pay though so next year I'll be back to getting money.

But wouldn't you rather pay at the end of the year? The only down side is I think they can fine you if you don't adjust your taxes. But I was talking to this guy at work today and he never adjusted anything and he pays every year. I don't know how he's been getting away with it for so long. I guess the IRS really isn't THAT hard to fool.

I like getting a lot back. Because if I get a little of that back every week for the whole year then it basically means nothing to me. When I get that big lump sum back all at once, I use it for something. I know I could just save more all year but I dont work that way. I would rather get a few thousand back in the beginning of the year instead of paying $700.

And I changed to Married and it screwed up my withholdings. So I changed to Married but Withholding as Single. So I'm not doing anything wrong.

I miss the good old days of douchebag Ryan and the constant name changes. I miss Wheelie and his fantastically ignorant comments.
