My rear passenger side brake pad was totally gone and the grinding I heard all week was metal to metal which killed my rotor.
The other side was on its way out too. It was starting to make a little groove on the rotor.
So both are getting placed in the rear. Charging me $275 which is less than I thought it would be so I guess thats OK.

Sucks because my car guy, Vino (Chong Li from these boards), could have done it for like 100 bucks less even adding in some extra cash I would toss him.
But he's away for the weekend and I couldn't wait because it sounded pretty bad. Looks like I was right.

Usually when your breaks get down to that far, you start hearing it before it starts grinding on the rotors. Either that or when you get your car checked out, they tell you your break pads need replacing.

At least it wasn't that expensive. I just had my 30k tune up and it ran for about $300. It would have been more if I had them replace the air filters. But I just bought the filters and replaced them myself. Youtube is awesome. I don't know what people did before. I guess they just grabbed "that guy" that knew every thing about cars and had them show you.

Got rear-ended/sandwiched this morning.
Stupid light changed and the truck in front of me slowed quickly. I managed to stop, but the guy behind me not so much. It looks like just a fender bender, but still sucks. Luckily nobody got hurt and it's not my fault at all. The guy that hit me was real cool about it, which was nice.

Yes. If they are pads they are typically very easy to do, drums are a bit more difficult. Watch out for springs/wire that help reduce the vibrations as they can fall off.
Youtube it, but it's basically take off the wheel, undo a couple of bolts, pop the old pads off, use a clamp to open up the hydraulic, put the new pads in, bolt back on. Also make sure you pump the brakes several times before actually trying to use them because they will be soft until the pressure builds back up.

....got the estimate for my car today. I'm so glad I'm not at fault but I feel bad for the poor guy that hit me. I barely felt like I got hit, but it apparently was hard enough to buckle the frame.
$5800 and a month without my car. I swear it's just an insurance scam.

holy shit man..thats a lot. what kind of car is it? if there is frame damage, you need to make sure that you get a check for the devaluement of the car. frame damage seriously impacts the value. They won't give you a ton, but it should be a few hundred bucks. but most places won't give it to you if they arent asked.

It's a ford fusion and I got rear ended by a toyota 4-runner
I'm still blown away by that cost. I should take it to another shop to get a different estimate, but at the same time it was a "preferred" shop from the other dudes insurance company so I would assume any screwing going on is done on a regular basis to that insurance company and they're aware of it.
