My parents have basic and their Chinese channels. But that's only for the TV downstairs. The TV in my room has an over the air antenna which works if the weather is good and I adjust it to point at the perfect spot. The spots change depending on what channel I want to watch. I pretty much keep it so I get FOX so I can watch HOUSE. I had it set to 10 when the Olympics were on.

The only sports I watch is tennis and some times football. And the only tennis I can watch over the air is Wimbledon. And I just watch football on FOX. So yeah, I have no reason for cable. I don't care about any of the shows on TV except for HOUSE. And all the episodes of the Jersey Shore, I watched online. If I wanted to watch a show, I'm pretty sure I can just find it online. And anything I watch on the computer, I put it on my TV so it's the same as watching TV.

It's not about not having the technology. It's about even if I had cable, it would be a complete waste of money because I wouldn't watch anything on it.

hah this is true. i did. well, when i was bitching about them way back they were awful. reception was almost nonexistent, and people were way too occupied with them. like when i was waiting tables, people were more interested in fucking around with their cell phones than actually telling me their order.

i have a (horribly named) My Touch 3G from t-mobile (an andriod phone). i actually really enjoy it. the only reason i jumped on the smart phone bandwagon was because t-mobile lowered their pricing. i now pay like 65/month for 500 min, unlimited txt and unlimited web, and its my only phone that i own so for me it works out fine.

but i agree. an additional 30 beans a month is absurd.

I know some people who used to only have a cell phone and no land line. They just hated getting calls from telemarketers so they stuck with the cellphones.

Yeah I dont have a land line. My wife and I each have a cell phone. I never got a house phone when I moved here about 4 years ago.

See I may not use my cell too much now but I'm hoping that I can get more into it later on.

As we all know, I held onto my old phone for close to six years and thought all this data stuff was stupid too. I could be heard saying "Why do I need the internet on my phone? Why I do I need music on my phone? Why do I need this? Why do I need that?" Well now that I have all these things, I love it. I have a Blackberry Curve 8530 (The same one Ryan has) and I pay $80 a month with Sprint for 450 minutes (Which I never come close to using), unlimited text messages, and unlimited data. My old phone was on Nextel and the service was terrible, but ever since I got a Sprint phone, my service has been fantastic. I can do everything I need to do on my phone and it is a huge advantage over my old shitty one that could barely handle text messages. Upgrade recommended!

Unlimited data is pretty solid. I don't even think Canadian companies offer that anymore.

Yeah the Telus site says the most you can get is 3GB a month and the plan that includes that costs $100 a month. I think you get like 550 minutes and unlimited text.

If I were to get a plan like this I'd probably go for the $65 one that has 200-300 minutes (there's some sort of bonus thing) and 1GB of data + the unlimited text and such.

BTW, I bought the MLB App for Blackberry for $15 so I can listen to any game I want. The radio at work has trouble with the local stations due to all the equipment interference, but I can connect to the public wifi and listen to the game through my phone which is sweet as hell. There is a 3 minute delay between the tv and the stream, but I'm not watching it anyway so it doesn't really matter.

I have unlimited data right now for $15 on top of my bill. I de-branded my sony ericsson phone and enabled tethering (connecting my laptop to the internet through my cell phone).

If I upgrade phones to a smart phone, that number doubles. If I want to add tethering, it quadruples. Thats fucked up.

I've been trying to find something like this on the android marketplace for flyers games, but no such luck. I'd pay for it, too.

There's a app for some phones called Flycast. I know you can get 610 WIP which broadcast every flyers game and also you can get the west coast feed of stern. I use both everyday at work. Sometimes you get station unavailable which blows. The website is flycast.fm.

I've done a lot of shamoozal browsing from my phone at work when I'm waiting for mail and stuff.

I could probably easily do away with cable. I don't watch too many shows. I could easily just download them the next day or watch them streaming over Hulu through a media center on PS3. I have Netflix so I get movies whenever and once again, I can stream tons of shit to my PS3/Xbox/Computer.

Considering 24 and Lost are ending this year, I basically have no shows I'm truly attached to anymore. Cable will probably come in handy for the kids, but again, that's what torrents, DVDs, and streaming sites are for.

It's rare that I actually sit down and just flick through channels. If it comes to a point where we're getting really tight on cash (and its possible) cable is the first thing to go.

The only real advantage TV has anymore is that it's where shows come on first. That's it. If you have patience, there is no need to have cable.

sports. thats the only reason i have cable. I hardly watch any regular shows.

Next month my regular cable goes out because comcast is switching to all digital, so i've got to get one of those stupid little converter boxes. I'm not happy about it because I think it's going to fuck up my pvr pc which i haven't even finished building yet.

You can get both those shows over the air in HD. Seeing how you're closer to Philly than I am, I'm sure your reception would be pretty good. You won't be getting anymore Taboo though. But I'm not entirely sure that's a bad thing.

I have a Droid and I fuckin love it man. I don't only use the internet on it for facebook but a lot of the times for reference in drawing. If I need to draw a medieval trebuchet for perspective class I can use my phone to grab some reference. I have all my music on it as well so I don't need to carry around an mp3 player. It's my go-to device and I have everything on it.

And the Android OS is wonderful, I just upgraded to 2.1 this morning and it made my phone 100x better than it already was.

I don't have cable or a land-line because I don't need it. I download all my shows and hook them up to a T.V. if I really feel like it. And landlines are fucking stupid, no-one I know uses them anymore. Even my parents got rid of theirs.

I still like having my land line as a "just in case" sorta thing. Most times I never hear my cell phone going off (its usually tucked in my bag, laying on a chair in my foyer), and Demi's cell phone is probably charged 50% of the time. And the land line always works. Cell phones may have better reception these days, but a land line always works and always sounds great. The only thing that sucks about having one is that I get so many fucking telemarketer calls. Other than that, it doesn't cost much to have and it has come in handy more than a few times.

yea the only reason we still have a landline is b/c of my grandmom. Even though we gave her are cell number and she wrote them down she calls the house phone everytime. I have caller ID on my cordless so we know when its a telemarketer.

We have caller ID too, and I usually just don't answer, but sometimes the phone numbers are tricky!
