Why would you ever, ever get tired of hearing good music? I can't fathom the concept. The only songs i tire of hearing are the bad ones. When was the last time you were listening to the radio and said to yourself: "This is a GREAT song! shit, better change the station." Replayability is one of the traits that makes a good song good.

Yeah, but do you ALWAYS feel like listening to the same song over and over again? Radios just play the same thing every 3 minutes, sure you like the song, but no sane human being would want to hear it over and over and over.

If there was a radio station that played ONLY John Mayer, 24/7, Sure i'd listen to it every once and a while, but just because it's great music doesn't mean I'd want to listen to it for the rest of my life.

The Foo Fighters are a pretty decent band, but their songs sound the same to me. After a while I grew tired of their stuff, and I wouldn't be bothered if I never heard their stuff again.

I have the same problem with Tool, love their sound but goddamn. The last single I remember hearing of theirs was basically just Schism all over again.

And to Sean, the whole point of this thread is to talk about what songs we're tired of hearing. They can be completely garbage or just stuff that's overplayed. I don't listen to shitty radiostations though so I don't know what the top40 pop bullshit is.

And yes I can fathom getting tired of hearing good music, especially when that constitutes the continued play of 3 good songs out of a band's catalogue of dozens of tracks. I don't hate the Beatles or Foo Fighters, but I don't want to hear Doa or Revolution every goddamn day. Hell I'm a huge fan of Metric but if I hear that song Help I'm Alive one more fucking time I might snap. I get bored with constant familiarity, it's like overwatching a movie or something, I mean how many times can you really watch The Empire Strikes Back before it just becomes boring.

I will now kindly ask you to die in a fire sir, because Tool is the greatest band ever.

I didn't say Tool was bad, I just said a lot of their radio hits sound samey. In fact I like Tool a lot, not as much as NiN but you get the point. I mean come on Vicarious sounds like it could have come straight off of Lateralus, and that's all I could think about when the goddamn song got played 4 million times on my local radiostation a few years ago.

I don't think all Foo Fighters songs sound the same either but I think the ones chosen to be singles for radioplay are all chosen because they have the same sort of aesthetic composition to them.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers though, meh, I do think they've just overdone their style to the point where they are just derivative of themselves.

So they are a good band who you never want to hear again? this makes little sense to me.

Dude I think that they're saying that they want to hear more songs by an artist. Cause most of the time they pick 1 or 2 songs and never play any of the other songs. If they were to play a wider catalog of music than it would be more difficult to grow weary of hearing the same 2 songs over and over.

I can see where you are coming from.

Nick is exactly right though, when I first heard those Foo Fighter songs I liked them...I didn't love them, but they were far better than listening to fucking Three Days Grace. However, listening to the same songs over and over can get really, really old.

vicarious sounds exactly like schism? hah ok...tool is exempt from this list because every one of their songs is infinitely listenable at any time.

at 20 seconds the guitar player looks EXACTLY like Wehner. I laugh everytime that commercial comes on.

if you play anything too much sean, it becomes irritating. good or bad.

and i have to agree with solid, commercials really kill a lot of songs for me. once i hear it on a commercial i am usually unwilling to listen to it in full on a radio station.

You can compare it to hearing a great joke over and over again.

Maybe, but songs can be recycled after awhile of downtime, jokes can't. I might not want to hear Nirvana for a long ass while, but I gaurentee 10 years from now I'll have some sort of huge nostalgia kick. It's like people who grew up in the 60s-70s and have fond memories of the Beegees.

I like to think of it more like really great movies. I mean I watched the shit out of A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi as a kid. It's to the point that I can only really watch those movies once every couple of years, and that's saying something because Harrison Ford is the man.

This thread is the reason I try to avoid the radio at all costs. I like to be in control what I get tired of and when.

I Believe in a Thing Called Love by The Darkness.

My ears are cringing at the thought of that song being stuck in my head.

The Rembrandts - I'll be there for you (aka the Friends themesong)

I was in the car the other day and this song came on the radio, I couldn't help but wonder who thought that was a good idea.
