1. It was designed with zero security in mind which was what made it so awful for Sega but so great for everyone else.

2. It had all the great fighting games of the late 90's and early 2000's

3. Apparently, it had a lot of hardware failure issues and are known to break down during each year's Evo which is the reason they have a million available for backup. But mine worked/works fine.

4. I wish I never bough Shenmue

It was awesome for me because I wasnt a hardcore gamer so I would be wasting money on games if I actually bought all those Dreamcast games. Sometimes I would burn them, play them for a weekend, then never touch them again. I had a huge CD booklet filled with burnt games. It really let me try out everything, like GameFly without paying money and not having to give the games back. So nothing like GameFly at all.

I probably should have used the Dreamcast for a console that I missed out on, but would like to still play. I played exactly 1 game on a Dreamcast, and that was a bootleg copy of Capcom vs. SNK. I also played Soul Calibur and Crazy Taxi, but those were in arcades. Hell I don't think I even saw or heard about the Dreamcast until 2 years after it came out.

tru dat

DC had the best games of any system past or present. FACT.

If they had put the cord on the correct side of the controller it would easily be the best controller of all time.

Sega Bass Fishing 2
Deep Sea Fishing was pretty good too.

Bass fishing was awesome though.

i remember being really impressed with all the polys and textures the DC could push around at the time. i feel like that was when the gap between the arcades and the homes consoles started closing. in fact, most of what was going on with a home console at that time was better graphically than what you would find in an arcade which up until that point was not the case.

the DC did indeed have some of the best fighters out there. i think i played the living shit out of capcom vs SNK, and it may go down as one of my personal fighting favs. shenmue was a shift in how games were thought of and perceived by developers...it was almost like the first casual game...for hard core gamers if that makes any sense hah.

Don't forget Phantasy Star Online. I hooked up the keyboard and monitor to my Dreamcast for it. I played the crap out of that game.

It came out 2 days after my 17th birthday and I remember it was the first day of school and I tried begging my mother to let me stay home and get my system. She wouldn't have it so right after school I impatiently waited for my friend Oswald to come by. He picked me up and we hit up the mall where I had pre-ordered my DC. Upon entering the store I saw people playing a game that I didn't really pay much attention to because Soul Calibur is what I was hyped up to play. That game was Power Stone and it was sold out.
Watching the two other people play Power Stone, my friend said you have to get that game because its that fun arcade fighter. I ended up getting a vmu, an extra controller, Soul Calibur, and NFL 2k. With a little extra money that I had left, I ventured up stairs with Oswald to the Babbages/Software Etc and got the very last Power Stone.
Earlier at school, I told my friends to come by after 6 because I had to get the system, hook it up, and eat dinner. Oswald, Rich Baker, Bob Tender, Ronnie, Burr, and I believe Don Zott all came over to check out Sega's new system. My friends didn't leave until about 10 pm and I continued til about midnight.

I wish I never got rid of it! :(

My Dreamcast is still alive and kicking. Or rather alive and sleeping. It's covered in dust somewhere. I tried to run an DC emu on my PC a while back. It loaded up to the menu screen but I could never get any games going on. I didn't exactly try that hard to figure it out. I just tried it for kicks. I think I just wanted to play 3rd Strike on my computer but then I just found it on Mame.

I've had mine unhooked for a while now, ever since I got my new tv. I'm going to have to hook it up today to play some Rush 2049 and start Shenmue all over again.

damn, i missed it by a few hours.

Far and away, the Dreamcast was the best system I ever bought. I think it's because I bought it brand new for $50 and it came with a classic game pack, and enjoyed the shit out of all the arcade fighting games that were on it. Plus, Shenmue 1 and the imported Shenmue 2 were fantastic. And Typing of the Dead remains one of my favorite games of all time.

As far as bang for my buck, it was great!

I loved my DC, my top 2 fav games would have to be the amazing powerstone I and II, and as well as in my opinion the last 2 good sonic games (adventures), which i also believe to be the best.
