Very entertaining fight for the most part until Cotto was forced to go on the defensive. I have no idea why the fight wasn't stopped in the 9th or 10th rounds because Cotto spent most of the time running away or getting hit in the face. Pacquiao may have the quickest hands in the sport because Cotto couldn't see half of the punches he was throwing and when you can't see them, you can't defend. Pacquiao should now be in line for a HUGE payday against Floyd Mayweather. The amount of money these two will make for this fight is going to be astronomical. Looks like talks are already underway:

I wanted to go out and watch this, but it's usually a pain in the ass to watch them at the place around here that shows PPV's.
I did see some highlights on sportscenter this morning and you're right, cotto got destroyed.

Agreed. Cotto did show real heart going back in there for the 12th after his corner tried to throw the towel.

My wife's family really loves Pacman. He's almost as big as God in the Philippines now.

And Pacman vs. Money. That'd be a sweet fight!

I agree that he showed a lot of heart going in there, but he was getting killed in front of his wife and kid. They ended up leaving the fight because he was getting beat so bad. At some point, you have to know when to fold 'em. Pacquiao almost looked like he was showing Cotto mercy toward the end. The two have a lot of respect for each other so Pacquiao earned a lot of points in my book for not trying to kill him in those later rounds. Let's not forget that Cotto is a hell of a fighter and was throwing some major shots in the beginning of that fight.

A tentative date of March 13th 2010 has been set for the blockbuster fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. Link below:

http://msn.foxsports.com/boxing/story/1 ... -for-March

Between this and the NCAA Tournament, March is going to be one hell of a month.

uh oh... manny doesn't want to do blood testing, possible hitch in the giddyup of this fight.

If that stops the fight, I would be surprised. They'll end up agreeing to something because there is simply too much money involved for this fight not to happen.

You're probably right, Pacquiao is pulling out all stops though...

He's apparently going to sue Mayweather and is in talks with another fighter to replace Mayweather.

Well now it looks like this fight is dead because Pacquiao went and actually filed the lawsuit against Mayweather for defamation:

Quote:
The suit asks for damages in excess of $75,000 and names Mayweather, his father, Floyd Sr., and uncle Roger Mayweather as defendants. Also named are Oscar De La Hoya and Richard Schaefer, who operate Golden Boy Promotions and are promoting Mayweather.

http://sports.yahoo.com/box/news;_ylt=A ... &type=lgns

They wonder why people think Boxing is a joke. This is complete and utter stupidity on the part of both fighters for this fiasco. I still think the fight will happen eventually, but probably not until late 2010.

Either a massive bluff to build more tension for the match since they only have 2 1/2 months to promote it or they both agreed to do it later in the year with more time to promote. Like you said before, there's just too much money to be made there for them to not do it. At least thats what I'm hoping.

They tried mediation this week and it didn't work.
Now Pacquiao is going to fight Clottey.

http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing ... id=4808708

I'm still waiting for a huge announcement on sunday or monday that the fight is back on... but it keeps looking slimmer and slimmer.

I've been ripping the Filipino guys at work about this fight. They keep coming up with excuse after excuse for Pacquiao and why he won't take the bloodtest.

Money gets arrested! This dream fight looks less and less likely to happen.

Quote:
(Reuters) - Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. was arrested Friday in Las Vegas on suspicion of grand larceny and domestic battery after an ex-girlfriend accused him of beating her in front of their children, according to police and court documents.

Mayweather, 33, who is undefeated in 41 bouts and widely regarded as the best defensive fighter of his generation, was jailed in the Clark County Detention Center in lieu of $3,000 bail, Las Vegas police spokesman Bill Cassell said.

He was initially booked on a charge of grand larceny for the alleged theft of a cell phone, but police said they are urging prosecutors to bring an additional charge of domestic battery based on the complaint of his ex-girlfriend.

Police did not name the woman, but an application she filed in court seeking a protective order against Mayweather identifies her as Josie Harris, with whom the boxer has three young children.

Mayweather's lawyer, Richard Wright, was not immediately available for comment.

Cassell said police were called to the woman's home on Thursday but made no arrests as the couple had merely quarreled

and there was no evidence of a crime.

Officers returned about two hours later when the woman called to report that she had been battered by Mayweather and that he had stolen her phone, Cassell said.

Mayweather was arrested and taken into custody Friday.

Police declined to give further details. But according to an protective order request filed by Harris and posted online by the celebrity news website TMZ.com, Harris accused Mayweather of assaulting her in front of their children.

"He awoke me by pulling me by my hair and throwing me on the ground in my living room and began punching me in my head ... dragging me on the floor and twisting my arm back in an attempt to try and break it," she wrote.

The flamboyant Mayweather, who lives in Las Vegas and is known by the nickname "Money," fought his latest welterweight bout in May against fellow American Shane Mosley, registering a unanimous points victory that improved his career record to 41-0, including 25 knockouts.

According to a 2010 list of the highest-paid U.S. athletes compiled by Sports Illustrated magazine, Mayweather ranks third with total earnings of $60.3 million, behind golfers Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

Here's the mugshot.

Please tell me someone else watched Mayweather/Ortiz.

Ortiz headbutts "Money" the ref calls a time out or whatever. Ortiz apologizes, they hug, BAM Floyd suckerpunches Ortiz, KOs him and apparently this shit is legal?

HE KO'D HIM WHILE HE WAS APOLOGIZING!

Fucking boxing.

Also Floyd went nuts on the like 80 year old guy doing the post fight, looked like he was going to hit him. Ortiz took it well though.

I honestly have no idea how boxing is even relevant anymore. MMA is way more exciting and has less purposely dirty shit. Yet guys like Mayweather are just rolling in cash. Floyd needs to stop ducking Manny so he can finally get put in his place.

The post fight was kind of funny. May tells Larry Merchant that he doesn't know shit about boxing and HBO should fire him and all this shit and Merchant hits him back with "If I was 50 years younger I'd kick your ass" and just walks away to interview Ortiz.

Seriously though this may have been the worst reffing ever. The guy restarts the fight right in the middle of the ring and just looks away.

Madness.

Also pre-rules UFC was ridiculous. If you want to see that go get two homeless guys to fight over a ham and cheese.
