I check my online bank statement every single day. Today I noticed two charges that I didnt recognize. I asked the wife if she knew what they were but I had a feeling they werent from us. One was for some electronic website I never heard of and the other was for the Warren Mall in PA. So my wife works at TD and went down to the bank department to ask. Apparently they were charges from my debit card. So now I have to go to TD and get my card cancelled and get a new one. Then I have to change all my online shit I have saved. This happened to me before when I was in college and its so annoying. Luckily this time they only charged about 10 bucks worth of stuff and last time it was 300. I got reimbursed but it took like 6 months.

And another thing that sucks is I cant get over to TD or even call until later today since I'm in the middle of some big work project. So hopefully no other charges pop up.

Oh okay. My sister just went through something recently but they really ripped her off good and basically wiped out her bank account.

Shit. I might have to get someone to cover for me so I can run over to TD.

It's not something Mandy could handle for you? She's not able to cancel your card?

You should really take care of the ASAP...you never know. My parents had to deal with that once, it was awful.

This is why I refuse to pay for things with a debit card. Same thing happened to a coworker and they had to go through all kinds of nonsense to get their money back. She found out who did it though and turned out it was a friend of her son. I would get this taken care of ASAP.

Yeah I did. Canceled my card and got a new one.
Mandy is gonna fill out the form once the debits are actually posted to our account because right now they're still in Pending. It was only 10 bucks total of stuff so even if we couldnt get it back it wouldnt be a huge deal.

I buy everything online. Clothes, DVDs, and gifts for the wife or siblings when their birthdays or Christmas come around. I rarely go out and buy stuff with cash at stores unless I need it on Day 1. So my info could have gotten out there from a variety of different places. I just bought my Dad a birthday present from Amazon a couple weeks ago. Thats the latest one I've done.

lucky they didnt run you dry. maybe the first charge was just a test and you caught it quick enough to avoid the shit storm that would have followed. this problem seems to be getting worse, not better. you would think they would have a better system to deal with it by now.

simple solution: RSA token in/on your credit card for online purchases. Not foolproof (see man-in-the-middle attacks), but still more secure. Simple biometrics for brick-and-mortar purchases would work fine. I mean fuck, even cheap laptops have fingerprint scanners these days, store that shit on a smart card on the plastic. the technology is cheap and it's out there.

That's why I'm really paranoid about signing in on to pubic computers or networks. I'm actually on a public network right now but there is pretty much no one here so I actually did sign into my email. It's really easy to steal stuff electronically now a days. People just don't think about those kind of things until it happens to them. My wife is always telling me that I'm paranoid but I'm really not, it's just the way the world is now and you have to get with the times or else you're going to end up a victim. A sheep for the wolves. I'm surprised they got you Manfre, you deal with this stuff 24/7. Just goes to show you that no one is safe.
