I think it's more of a whore daddy that no one knows how to write in cursive anymore. Or writing at all for that matter. Hand writing pretty much went down the shitter since the computer age. It's pretty rare to find someone that has decent handwriting now a days.

WHAT! Now that is the offense. They should at least learn it. If cursive has any importance it's used to sign documents. Then again, most people just make these awful signatures that are just scribbles anyway so whatever.

My writing is awful. It's a hybrid of cursive and print and sometimes I can't even read what I wrote.

Yeah, we had to learn it in 3rd grade, and I haven't used it since. I definitely think it should still be taught so people can at least understand it, but there should be a "Don't actually write like this or you're an asshat" warning before each lesson.

The last time I had to write in cursive was for the SATs. We had to write some sentence before the test started and it took me FOREVER. When I was done everyone in the room was just staring at me like I was an asshole. I actually had to sit there and remember how to write certain letters. My AP English teacher also made us write our papers in cursive, and it used to piss me off.

I love how in elementary they made such a big deal out of it. I never used it after 6th grade. I can't even write in cursive anymore.

I use cursive almost daily.

It is ridiculously faster to write in cursive than to print, and I don't have a computer with me everywhere I go.

I don't see what the problem is.

I was talking about this with my wives family a few months ago, I was like who the hell uses cursive still? I was the only one who didn't, they all said its so much faster. I don't write much though, just lists of material for jobs.

I prefer cursive to read and write but I never write so my cursive looks like shit now. Not that it was that great to begin with. If I read or write non cursive, I feel like a 5 year old did it.

this is kind of a sad thread, and i guess i never realized that most people didnt like to write in cursive. i generally switch it up, and it depends on what im writting at the time which dictates which i use. if im just making a list ill go with print. if i'm writting any long form ill go with cursive, because its faster.

There's no doubt it's faster and more efficient. Your pen has to leave the paper less. I just hope cursive doesn't go away like the ways of the dodo. But it probably will. It'll become some sort of ancient art. I'd imagine this problem is not just localized in the US. Now that you can type Asian characters on the PC, I'm sure people are writing a lot less is countries like China and calligraphy is a big part of the language. But they're much more strict about knowing how to write over there.

I don't have a problem if you wanna save time and write in cursive, but if someone else has to read what you're writing, just write normally.

It depends, I'd rather have my profs. write in cursive just so I don't have to watch them write shit out for 30 minutes at a white board. Mind you I'm taking history and philosophy, so I'm used to dealing with terrible handwriting and awkward spelling because of the amount of original source materials we have to use for projects.

Spending a couple weeks going through letters written by people in the 1800s will make you become an expert in understanding cursive. I don't see how cursive would be especially beneficial to someone in fields like the natural sciences though. Maybe for writing lab reports, but I'd assume most people just use computers for that.

As for cursive going extinct, meh I don't know about that. If stuff like the ipad continues to be popular some people just might end up writing cursive notes digitally. I'm sure it'll eventually be on its way out, but I don't know how soon that might be.

I hate cursive, I write somewhat awkwardly and cursive cramps my hand up badly. Also my cursive is disgusting.

True for American schools in some states.

I know in my province cursive is still being taught. I know they also teach proper typing technique at the same age though, so who knows what is going on anymore.

Ah fuck it, maybe it is dead. In that case I'm just an archaic old fart.
