Since there's no longer a weekly movie post on the Nerdlog about new releases, I didnt know where to put my thoughts on new movies from this week or box office numbers and junk like that. Sometimes movies don't deserve their own thread because I'm sure only a couple people will comment, or no one at all. So here's a new thread that I will STICKY so it stays around the top even when there's not a lot to talk about. Post anything about new theater releases, DVD/Blu Ray Releases, box office. Or just whatever.

Anyway, the reason I made this was because Rise of the Planet of the Apes has an 83% on RT right now. 5 fresh, 1 rotten.
I kind of turned a corner on this movie. At first I was like why the fuck are they making this, then I just had no interest at all, but now I want to see it. I don't know what changed my mind. Maybe just seeing the trailers over and over and thinking it actually looked kind of interesting. But I'll probably go an early showing after work on Friday since the wife as no interest at all.

Yea I'd probably see Apes too, might see it next Tuesday.

I really want to check out The Guard which was released in one theater in NY this past Friday. It's written and directed by John Michael McDonagh the brother of In Bruges director Martin McDonagh. It has a 95% on RT with 37 reviews and got great buzz out of Sundance earlier this year.

Good idea for a thread. I've been wanting to comment on how I was in shock that Smurfs did so well.

Seriously, I can't believe it. It looked dreadful.

Just to show you that people will go watch any garbage. Smurfs goes to New York. WHY!? That is the dumbest movie idea ever. SMURFS LIVE IN THE FOREST. THEY'RE A CARTOON! They don't belong in the real world let alone NYC! Get the hell outta here! If they at any point go to the Apple Store, I think I would just detonate a nuclear bomb in the entire theater. No, detonate a nuclear bomb over Hollywood.

I want to see Planet of the Apes too. But I'm not going to go to the theaters and pay for it. I'll catch it if it's on Netflix or something.

The Hard R rating of The Change Up kind of makes me want to check it out.
But reviews haven't been kind.

This is pretty funny though.

Apes did really good this weekend. Can't believe it did over 50mill. I didn't think people were all that interested in it on a whole. That's cool, good to see a movie that seems to be well liked doing well.

The Change Up was a bomb. Hopefully Hollywood will realize nobody gives a shit about Ryan Reynolds after two summer bombs in a row.

Burton doesn't have a flawless record. He's done some awful shit, Willy Wonka being another. I personally haven't liked a Tim Burton movie since Big Fish.

HAHAHAHAHA

I think that's actually an alpaca but I don't think that would have made it any clearer.

The last thing that Ryan Reynolds was good in that I watched was Van Wilder.

30 Minutes or Less isnt getting the greatest reviews (45% with 15 fresh, 18 rotten) but I'm still seeing it tomorrow night.
Its from the director of Zombieland and I feel like that movie came outta nowhere and blew me away. It was great. I'm hoping this one is good too.
It should be, with some good names attached to it. Danny McBride, Nick Swardson, Jesse Eisenberg and Aziz Ansari.
