Just announced, Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300) will be directing.

from joblo.com
Quote:
The search is now over!

After all the names thrown in the pot, it looks like Nolan and company have decided that this is a job for Zack Snyder.

Well, there you have it ladies and gentlemen. Snyder beat out Tony Scott (MAN ON FIRE), Matt Reeves (LET ME IN), Jonathan Liebesman (BATTLE: LOS ANGELES), Duncan Jones (MOON), and if the rumors were true, Darren Aronofsky (BLACK SWAN). I think some of us might have been rooting secretly for underdog Duncan Jones, but I'm guessing they wanted a bigger name and someone with more experience.

This is not to say that Snyder is a bad choice. Bringing his style to the world of Supes could be very f*cking cool. I believe in Nolan and trust his judgment. Also, Snyder's upcoming SUCKER PUNCH looks like the ultimate cinematic wet dream. Nothing is better than kick ass visuals and hot young women with weapons.

Deadline spoke to Snyder directly and here's what he said: "I've been a big fan of the character for a long time, he's definitely the king of all superheroes, he's the one. It's early yet, but I can tell you that what David (Goyer) and Chris (Nolan) have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern. I've always felt he was kind of awesome. I'll finish 'Sucker Punch' and get right at it."

Alright, time for me to stop typing and time for you to weigh in. Are you guys on board with this choice?

I like Snyder visually, minus the slow mo. Could be cool for spiderman though.

I have been away from the movie rumor mills for a bit, but man, am I getting stoked for Christopher Nolan's Superman!!!

If it can somehow have a darker edge to it, which Nolan can definitely deliver, then this would be a fan-friggin-tastic movie!

ditto. I like her as well. The only beef i have is that Amy Adams is a quintessential red-head. Isn't Lois Lane traditionally a brunette?

Kevin Costner and Diane Lane are playing the Kents.
Russell Crowe and Julia Ormond are Jor-El and Lara, Superman's real parents.
Laurence Fishburne is playing Perry White, editor in chief of The Daily Planet.

Haven't updated here in a while so I just wanted to throw all those casting choices in.

I like it but I really hate that they are covering his origin AGAIN...we all know where he's from and what happened to Krypton.

They released the plot synopsis and its pretty basic to your average Superman story.

Quote:
“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.”

Julia Ormond is out as Superman's mother for whatever reason.
And in steps Ayelet Zurer (Angels & Demons, Munich).

Not sure if I like the inlet of the "S" on top of the "S".

Maybe it's just because I'm not too pumped about the new Superman movie just yet.
