I was just saying this to Frank, and since the Smorg is dead, thought I'd bring it up here.

I've said this before, but I started looking at B&R differently after I read an interview with Uma Thurman years after its released. They basically asked her if she was ashamed of that movie and like a trooper she said no. She added that people didn't "get it" and that the movie was supposed to be ultra campy, like a send up to the Adam West ones. I've watched the movie several times since then, and while it is indeed awful, I can see her point. I think the movie still has more of a series bite than it should which is why the camp factor idea fizzles out, but it still works enough.

So Batman Forever, I used to love. I used to think it was this great movie. Keep in mind I was in 8th grade when I saw that movie. This movie is fucking terrible. It has almost zero redeeming qualities. The biggest problem it faces is that they tried very hard to be a proper Burton follow up film and still have that camp factor in there. This is what makes it worse than Batman & Robin. There are other areas too where B&R is better.

The bad guys. Freeze and Ivy are pretty awful, but at least they're different from one another and have very different motivations. The Riddler and Two Face on the other hand, are essentially the same person. Also, their motivation is chaos and nothing more. Sure that's Joker's motivation in The Dark Knight, but he is proving points and he is manipulating people. There is a method to his madness. Riddler and Two Face just laugh together and rob banks. They're terrible.

B&R also doesn't waste time introducing Bruce Wayne to a new love interest. Bruce already has a girlfriend in B&R, we meet her for five minutes and thats that. Sure he kinda falls in love with Ivy, but that's because he's being tricked. It doesn't really count. So, there's that.

Both of these movies are terrible, but I believe Batman & Robin to be the secret better of the two films. Forever is that bad.

That said, I will watch both whenever I come across them, I mostly like Elliot Goldenthal's score (which is better in Forever), and I actually do like all the garish colorful sets that sorta give the movies the look of an old comic book.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH. Well yeah they're both awful, but one shit is less stinky than the other, and it's fun to talk about.

And I say it. That's who. How else can I describe it?

I dont even know what garish means. hahahaha

I'm with Phil on some points. I loved Batman Forever in 8th grade and always knew Batman & Robin was shit.
But I don't rewatch movies a hundred times unless I love them. I don't think I saw Batman & Robin all the way through since my first viewing.
And when I rewatched Batman Forever I knew it wasn't as good as I previously thought. But I still didn't hate it.
Haven't seen that one all the way through in a long time either though.

You should watch them before Dark Knight Rises to get pumped up for it. AHAHAHHAAH.

As for Garish

excessively or disturbingly vivid <garish colors> <garish imagery>
b : offensively or distressingly bright : glaring
3
: tastelessly showy

Which describes those two movies perfectly.

The old 70s/80s batman and robin tv show is the biggest pile of shit, it's hilarious to watch it though.

HAHHAHAHA, yeah, both movies are terrible but I guess your point is that B&R is better because you can keep laughing at how bad it is while Forever is just bad. I'm with Irate. They're just both bad in their own way. It doesn't really matter. But I get the feeling this is the Phil "I defend all bad movies" Summers coming out.

No I'm not defending them. Just saying B&R is better than Batman Forever, but admitting that they were both completely awful. B&R could have been brilliant if it didn't have its serious moments.

I think "Ice to See You" made it briliant enough. Oh, and did you guys know that McBane from the Simpsons said that exact line in an episode where he pops out of an ice statue? So Arnold immitated a Simpson's character that's supposed to be immitating him.

Well he didn't die, he was going to die. He was dying of what Freeze's wife died of, and so they had Freeze give them the cure at the end.

I hate them both...But the more I watch Batman Forever the more I hate it especially The Riddler...He is so gay in it. He is all over Tommy Lee Jones and as soon as they meet they can't stop groping each other and saying weird shit like "TWICK OR TWEET!" At least Batman and Robin has Arnold being hilarious in it, that's its one saving grace. I also don't like the colors in both movies, both movies have colors that match the villains in every scene.

Both are piles of shit but if I see them on tv I'll watch them. There is a ton of camp but there is also some serious shit, which is wear they fucked up. If you want to mimic old camp you need Batman running around a boardwalk with a giant bomb over his head trying to throw it but people keep getting in the way, and a dolphin saving Batman and Robin's lives by sacrificing itself and getting in the way of a torpedo.

this show stillies? huge pile of shit. I get many laughs out of it though, I love how awfully they use the Nanannana spinning transition abruptly.
