Most of the time I see cabinets for sale for a reasonable price they're on the west coast. They're cool to own, getting them, and moving them is the biggest pain.

I'd love to have one in my bar. If I didn't have a kid on the way I would have jumped on that Wrestlefest one.
Either that or one of those shuffleboard bowling games but I think that would take up too much room.

Didn't realize you were interested in one. I'll keep an eye out for something like Wrestlefest in the future for you and Hack.

Owning one of those Chexx Hockey bubbles would be pretty sweet too.

Oh yeah and Jim, I also noticed West Coast stuff is usually cheaper, especially the candy cabs since there are more of them over that way. I wonder why the regular wood ones are cheaper too. It's weird.

Craigslist, eBay, KLOV forums and Neo-Geo forums. I got both my cab and board off Neo-Geo.

I got TMNT off of KLOV, and the cabinet off of Craigslist. I do Ebay searches from time to time and use the by distance sorter. I've always wanted a Street Fighter cabinet, I won't be owning a second one though, they take up way too much room.

So I got around to doing the wiring for the Xbox. It was a hell of a job.

Image

I did all the red shit. My Dad gave me a hand since I never soldered anything in my life. Took about three and a half hours to get through. The good news is, it worked! The bad news is, the Xbox Timer Device itself looks and sounds like dog shit. The colors are dark as fucking hell. I sat there and played around with them and came up with shit. The audio sounds pretty rough too. I fired up the Genesis emulator on here and it sounded fucking atrocious. I decided to try out Jet Set Radio Future to see how an Xbox game looked. Picture was equally terrible, not that I really expected it to change. Good news is that JSRF is fully playable with the joystick, so that's kinda awesome.

Really at a loss here to be honest though. I know there are other ways of hooking up the Xbox that would probably/maybe give me better results, but they're expensive! I don't know, I think I might be in over my head with this machine.

Do you know the reason why the audio is terrible? Is the source just bad or are you getting signal degridation?

Did you test the wiring with a multimeter/probe to make sure you don't have bad connections?

Yeah its the timer board itself. Its just a pile of shit. The connections are fine. If I plug the timer board right into the Jamma harness without the setup I created it looks and sounds exactly the same. All I did was make it so that the buttons would work, which they do.

I wanted to do the Ultimarc stuff because people said that shit is really good, but I'm pretty sure it's going to cost like 100 bucks. I was trying to stay on the cheap with this one. Though I guess between the Timer itself, and all the parts I had to buy I probably ended up spending about 80 dollars. I probably should have went with Ultimarc.

edit: Yeah, went to Ultimarc's site and put the stuff I needed in the cart. It's over 100 bucks. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Jim, I guess this is the one you watched?

And yeah he said how it's much darker and his buttons are not working, which makes sense. He would need to do what I did. However kicking up the brightness doesn't fix the dark issue. I did that and while it helps, the colors are just awful. Like in TMNT, I know that the staircases in the first stage are red. Through this they're basically black. Messing with the brightness shows a tint of red in the black, but it still looks black. The thing is just a piece of shit, and I feel bad for people that order it unknowingly thinking it'll work out of the box. I ordered it knowing I had work to do with it... though I was hoping the color and audio would be decent.

edit: Weird, his buttons magically started working when he switched emulators.

So I fiddled around with the XBox thing some more last night and I got it all straightened out. I adjusted the contrast and colors before, but I decided to give it one more go and I managed to sort them out. I think it looks about as good as it's going to look. I get the feeling the picture will never look perfect with this thing, on top of the fact that I think the Blast monitor itself is sorta shitty too. I also fixed the audio too. The Xbox board itself has an audio knob (all PCBs do actually, I think) so I lowered that and I bumped up the vol on the Blast, and it sounded really good.

I'm glad all it took was just a bit of tuning. I'm pretty happy with it now. Since the Xbox Timer is such a mess of wires, I was thinking of putting together a project box for it. I hear RadioShack sells empty project boxes, so I might pick one up. I assume I probably need a dremel though, which I don't have, so maybe I won't do that yet. Anyway, I ended up playing a bunch of games before I settled on Ghouls N Ghosts. Made it about halfway through the game and went to bed.

Maybe the monitor needs a tuneup? I know mine needs a new cap kit, I'll probably pay someone to come and do that for me.

Yeah I could probably do some things to get it looking a little nicer, but nothing will fix the burn in. :(

Went to Next Level tonight to get SF Anniversary for Xbox. I traded in my PS2 version and a couple of other games and items (a 5 player SNES adapter and Jaguar controller) for it. Also ended up getting Power Rangers and Stunt Race for SNES and Pilotwings 64. It's funny that I traded things in to make room and get rid of some stuff and yet I just replace it with more junk.

I could have gotten much more for the Jag controller on eBay, but whatever.

Can't you degauss it?

Remember the degauss button on old crt monitors? That being said, I don't think that's an option on an arcade monitor and intercept don't think it would clear years of burn ins

I don't remember that for some reason, but after looking this up on YT, I realize that the cab does have a degauss button. I was wondering what that button was doing when I was hitting it a few weeks ago. But yeah, it helped a bit but certainly won't do anything about the burn in. The burn in is there to stay. And since a new monitor is like 300+, the burn in is there to stay for a very, very long time.

Pretty sure this method is more extensive. You never know until you try.
