You should give Rushmore a shot, I think that's his best personally. Slightly ahead of Royal Tenenbaums

I saw Royal Tenenbaums in theaters when it came out. I barely remember any of it.
Its been on my Netflix list for a while, just haven't made it #1.

This is the latest Wes Anderson movie. I like Wes Anderson flicks but I never love them. I feel like he's the hipster director. The hipsters love this guy. And the humor is right up their alley. Anyway this one is about two young kids who run away together because they're in love. The family of the girl (Bill Murray & Frances McDormand) get the police (Bruce Willis) to search for her. He's already searching for the boy who is an orphan and was reported missing by his scout leader (Edward Norton). The usual Wes Anderson type dry humor ensues. There are some generally funny moments, nothing too hilarious though. The kid actors are actually really good. I was surprised its mainly about them and not about the big name A listers that populate the film. The end actually got pretty intense when a hurricane hits the island they live on while the search for the kids continue. There are some really cool moments, but again I didn't love it.

Actually I've never seen Bottle Rocket, Rushmore or Fantastic Mr. Fox so I'm not really an Anderson expert.
But The Darjeeling Limited and The Royal Tenenbaums are pretty good. Wasn't a fan of The Life Aquatic.

My two favorites are Rushmore and Fantastic Mr. Fox. I'm gonna try and see Moonrise if I have a chance before it leaves theaters.

I really liked those 3 you haven't seen. ahahaha

Rushmore is probably my favorite. Fantastic Mr. Fox has some serious nostalgia going for me (I read a lot of Roald Dahl when I was young). Bottle Rocket is probably the least hipstery of his movies? Anyway, it's the first one I remember watching.

I was kind of put off by The Royal Tennenbaums and Life Aquatic. I don't know, they seem kind of weird to be weird. I guess if I enjoyed the humor more, I would like it. Royal Tennenbaums in particular just bums me the hell out.

I liked the Royal Tennenbaums. I don't think I got through Life Aquatic.

I just watched the Comic Con documentary. It was pretty entertaining. I kind of felt bad the one dude got rejected. I guess I can see why if he's using picture references and isn't coming up with ideas of his own. His drawings still looked decent though. I wish they had more close up shots of the 2 guy's art. The other guy's seemed really good. Dark Horse must be hit up by all sorts of people at those cons.

Watched The Bourne Ultimatum last night. I'm curious to see how the new one will work, as its supposed to take place at the same time.
But this movie is awesome. The one fight scene with the other assassin is done perfectly.

I have Flash Gordon on DVR and I've never seen it from beginning to end so I'm going to watch it today.

Flash Gordon
This is one of the cheesiest movies of all time. So bad. Yet so good. I've never seen it all the way through. Scott and Ryan would watch it all the time and I would only see bits and pieces. After seeing Ted and all the references there, I decided to watch it from beginning to end. I mostly remembered it all. All the scenes with the quotable lines I knew were coming. Its so goddamn ridiculous. The effects are so bad. Sam Jones is a terrible actor. And the lead Hawk Man was such an overactor. And I just found out that Emperor Ming is Max Von Sydow who was nominated for an Oscar this past year. A terrible sci fi movie but it makes me laugh. The music just randomly popping up during the final scene is hysterical.

I just finished Indie Games the Movie.

I don't know how these guys do it man. It takes a certain type to devote so much time and energy all into one thing. I felt bad for that Phil guy. They are just constantly under stress. He sounded he was on the verge of killing some one or himself. Poor guy. It puts a whole new perspective and spin into your game clubs now. I'm pretty sure the game about the cat guy didn't spend years of his life developing that game but there's a whole new level of respect for that guy for sure.

Yeah man which is why I always try to be as fair as possible when I talk about indie games on there. It's very hard to rip on them when you know what they've gone through to create that product, especially because I can also understand it. I felt awful about the Pitiri episode, but man that was a bad game.

I also felt bad for Phil Fish. Apparently he's still stroking out about that game and it's been out for months. He's released patches and shit that have corrupted game saves and shit. I still really want to play Fez. Maybe I'll work it into Game Club.

Batman Begins

Watched this for the first time in ages last night. I of course still loved the absolute shit out of it. My only main beef is still with the device at the end, I think it's kind of a silly thing/idea, but whatever. What I really hate is how they over explained what the device does. Batman and Gordon have this whole conversation about what The League plans to do with the device and what will happen if they don't stop it. In case that went over your head, we then cut to some dudes that work on Gotham's water lines, who then explain the situation again. As the train gets halfway through the city, JUST in case we weren't following, the guys at the water place ONCE AGAIN explain what is happening if that train makes it to Wayne Tower. I mean holy fucking shit, we get it. That train makes it to the tower, Gotham is fucked. Three times they explain it within a 15 minute (maybe less) span. You could cut out all three (or four?) shots of those guys at the water facility and you wouldn't lose a single thing. They're just the dummy crew to explain to the dummies what is going on, just in case you weren't listening to fucking Batman and Gordon having an awesome conversation, you might listen to the old white guy you haven't seen once for the entire two and a half hour movie. HHhnnnnnnnggggg!!!!!

Oh and is it me, or is it absolutely fucking stupid that of ALL the places in Gotham where Dr Crane could dump his drugs into the water lines he does it right out in the open at fucking Arkham Asylum? I mean I guess that is the point, in that The League has infiltrated so many sectors of Gotham that they're able to something like that right out in the open, but shit man, that were being really careful about how to smuggle those drugs into Gotham, but I guess once they got there you can just dump them into whatever.

I don't think I noticed this before but I love at the end when Gordon is talking to Batman (right before he hands him the Joker card) he mentions how they lost the island. Like that place was just fucked beyond all. I of course remember the line about them not capturing all the criminals (thus the Joker card) but I guess I never realized he said that the whole area was just screwed.

Oh yeah and I also never realized the cameo appearance by villain Zsaz, probably because I didn't know he was a bad guy until I played the video game. He's also the dude that threatens Rachael and the little boy at the ending.

so i also get annoyed that it is explained too many times. if you are that dumb you should not be watching this movie. although the scenes with the old guys at the tower, felt very comic book to me. so i think that's why i let it go. the way that entire sequence is laid out feels super comic book to me. the way it is cut, the dialogue, all of it.

as far as the device goes, i don't think it is that unrealistic of a device. now i think it would be hard to construct something with that much power behind it, but the concept itself sounds like a pretty real thing to me. it is like using an EMP weapon instead of a nuke. It doesn't lay waste to the area and kill everyone, but it will make it impossible to fight off any attack. it crushes infrastructure/resistance, which was their goal. this kind of tactic has been used for thousands of years when trying to take on a larger opposing force.

also, crane wasn't dumping anything in plain sight. he had total control over arkham and was dumping it in some basement chamber that no one would ever go. he was probably the only one with the key to the floor (if you remember he has to use a key to take Rachael down there). considering the toxin itself was inert unless it was absorbed through the lungs, no one would have ever known one way or the other.

Ah thats a good point about Crane and when he used the key. Yeah I guess he did have pretty much total control. I will let that one slide.

I see your points on the weapon. I don't hate the weapon, it's just not my favorite. I do love how so many tiny details are all wrapped up into it, like the blue flower Bruce picks at the start of the movie.

I also forgot/liked how the League was responsible for the depression and how the Wayne's were fighting against them and not even knowing it.

BTW this movie has so many great lines. Everything out of Liam Neeson's mouth is great. Nearly everything out of Bruce's mouth is also great.

yeah. i still think it is my favorite so far. i mean i love TDK. but begins really changed the batman character. which is what nolan wanted. bruce wayne becomes the secret identity, which is why i love it so much.

and even though some of the plans are a bit intricate and can be far fetched, they are more realistic than any other comic book movie. which is a hard fucking thing to accomplish.

the whole league of shadows thing is just awesome. i love everything about it. like a hand of fate that comes in and wipes societies from the earth when they get out of hand. i wish it was real..we need it now.

Yeah I still think I like this one more than TDK as well, and I LOVE TDK. I'm going to try and watch TDK on Wednesday night, so I'll know for sure then. Still, these two movies are so awesome. Getting pumped as shit.

when you watch TDK very shortly after begins, it is even more awesome. TDK is what feels like a second act to Batman Begins. It is constant escalation. The movie is balls out the entire time and there is a lot less character development. It is an incredible movie, but Begins is just so much deeper. The way I look at it is, Begins is about Batman, TDK is about the city and the Joker, DKR will again be about Batman. Everything in all of these movies has been about Bruce Wayne being tested as a man, what kind of hero will he be? What level will he go to in order to protect the people of Gotham? Can/will the man be broken?

When I read that article the other day about rebuilding batman and it was talking about why Nolan chose Bale to play Bruce Wayne, it made so much sense. The guy is an insanely intense actor who throws every ounce of himself into his roles. Essentially, he is Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne is a guy who is on a mission, everything in his life, revolves around that mission. It is the main reason I think Nolan's movies will always be hailed as the best Batman movies. No matter what shit comes out in another decade. He and Bale made the character real.

I actually feel bad for whoever is picked as the next crew (from the actors to the director) involved in the new Batman series. How in the world can they possibly top this? It's just impossible.

Oh yeah another thing I meant to say about BB was the ending with Rachael. Fuck Rachael. Bruce is trying to clean up his home and she comes out of nowhere blasting her nips, then makes out with him and THEN says "Yeah too bad you're Batman, peace out." Fucking bitch. How dare she give Batman blue balls like that.
